CodeVortex is a small senior engineering practice, working with a network of specialist partners when a project needs skills outside our own. It is built on more than 25 years of software development experience, and it specializes in understanding, maintaining and improving applications that businesses already depend on.

Our approach is pragmatic: preserve what works, fix what doesn't, and modernize where it creates real value. We are not interested in replacing a working system for the sake of a newer stack — we are interested in making it stable, understandable and affordable to change.

How we think about legacy software

A system that has been in production for a decade is usually not a mistake. It is an asset that carries years of business decisions, edge cases and integrations that nobody fully documented. The risk is rarely the age of the code — it is the loss of the people who understood it.

That is the gap CodeVortex fills: engineers who are comfortable reading unfamiliar code, tracing behaviour through a database, and delivering changes without breaking what already works.

Modernizing such a system rarely starts with replacing its platform. More often it starts at the edges: a REST interface so the systems around it can finally reach the data, or moving one part — the database, the integration layer, a single service — to cloud infrastructure while the rest keeps running where it is.
