Enterprise software engineering
CodeVortex helps companies keep business-critical applications reliable while gradually improving, refactoring and modernizing the systems they depend on.
The real situation
Many business-critical applications have been developed and improved over many years. They contain valuable business logic, integrations and data that cannot simply be replaced overnight.
The problem is usually not that the software does not work. The problem is what it now costs to change it — and who is still able to do that safely.
CodeVortex helps companies deal with these systems pragmatically.
Services
Most engagements combine several of these. Maintenance keeps the system running, refactoring makes it cheaper to change, and new development keeps it relevant.
Keep critical applications stable and supported.
Improve an existing system without unnecessarily replacing it.
Add new business capabilities without destabilizing the existing application.
Work on the data layer behind complex applications.
Technical expertise
Long-lived business applications are rarely built on the newest stack. We work where these systems actually run — and we treat that as a specialization, not a compromise. That includes the modern side of the same systems: the REST interfaces they need to talk to the rest of the business, and the move toward cloud infrastructure where it earns its keep.
Maintaining and evolving long-lived business applications, including complex enterprise software and business-critical systems. Delphi / Object Pascal is our primary platform and the one we know best.
Extensive experience with the SQL data layer behind complex business applications: data-intensive workloads, sophisticated business logic and demanding reporting. Much of that work has been done on Microsoft SQL Server, and the same engineering approach carries over to other relational database platforms.
Opening a closed application up. We expose existing business logic through REST APIs and web services, and connect business-critical systems to the tools around them — designed to be documented, versioned and safe to change once other teams depend on them.
Moving long-lived applications toward cloud infrastructure where it earns its keep. Usually that means a hybrid path — the database, the integration layer or a single service first — rather than a big-bang migration of a system the business cannot afford to lose.
Reducing technical debt and reshaping structure step by step, so a system that is expensive to change becomes one a team can work on again — without a full rewrite.
The batch jobs, imports, exports and reporting workloads that move data between systems — built to be observable, restartable and safe to change when the business rules behind them move.
Why CodeVortex
More than 25 years of professional software development experience.
Work directly with experienced engineers instead of passing requirements through multiple layers.
Small senior engineering teams can investigate problems, make decisions and deliver changes quickly.
We don't just fix today's problem. We look for ways to make the system easier and safer to maintain tomorrow.
Featured experience
Long-term development and maintenance of a complex enterprise PDM platform — a system with years of accumulated business logic, deep database integration and demanding data processing requirements.
The engagement combined day-to-day maintenance with continuous feature delivery and step-by-step modernization, on a system that customers depend on in production. It ran as a long-term arrangement rather than a fixed project, with the same engineers on the codebase throughout.

How we work
We learn how the system works and what the business actually needs.
We identify and resolve critical technical and operational problems.
We improve the areas that create the most development risk.
We deliver new functionality without unnecessary disruption.
We gradually replace outdated components where modernization provides real business value.
Working with CodeVortex
Long-lived systems are a long-term commitment, so the arrangement around the work matters as much as the work. This is how we set it up.
A short technical assessment first: we read the code, map the risky areas and tell you what we would do — before anyone commits to a larger scope.
An NDA on request, then either a framework agreement for ongoing work or a per-project contract. Rates and scope are agreed in writing before we start.
Direct contact with the engineers on your codebase, in your tooling, at whatever reporting rhythm suits you. No account manager in between.
Work stays documented and handover-ready, and we bring in specialist partners when a project needs skills outside our own.
Is this you?
Our original developers are gone.
Nobody wants to touch the old code.
Every new feature takes too long.
We have years of business logic trapped in the application.
We need someone who understands both code and databases.
We need modernization, but a rewrite is too risky.
Another system needs our data, and we have no API to give it.
Our integrations are held together by scheduled file transfers.
Management wants this in the cloud, and nobody knows where to start.

A short description of your application and your current difficulty is enough for a first useful answer. You will be talking to the engineers who would do the work.
